Dr. Cassandra Henderson

Dr. Cassandra joins Umoja Community Education Foundation with more than two decades of leadership experience spanning K-12 education, California state government, and mission-driven organizations. Most recently, she served as Chief Operating Officer at Child Action, Inc., where she partnered across the organization to strengthen operations and support the organization’s strategic goals in service to children, families, and the community. She earned her Doctor of Education (Ed.D.) in Educational Leadership from California State University, Sacramento, where her doctoral research examined the impact of California’s housing burden on school segregation and Black student achievement.

Dr. Cassandra is passionate about building strong relationships, strengthening organizational capacity, and creating workplaces where people and organizations can thrive. She is the proud mother of a 20-year-old daughter and an 18-year-old son and has been married to her husband for 22 years. When she’s not at work, she enjoys spending time with family and friends, cooking, and baking people happy, reading, and watching documentaries. She is excited to join the Umoja family and looks forward to getting to know her new colleagues, learning from them, and contributing to Umoja’s mission.
